How Panth researches trail facts
Every trail on Panth is a structured record. This page explains where its facts come from, how they are checked, what the labels mean, and how mistakes are fixed.
Who checks the facts
Panth is edited by Vijay Kumar Singh. Research and drafting use software tools, including AI assistants. Facts on source-reviewed pages come from the sources linked on each page, not from the tools, and where sources disagree the page shows both figures instead of picking one silently.
What the labels mean
- Source-reviewed (77 trails): the start point, distance, height, season, permits and safety notes were checked against the sources listed on the page, each with the date it was checked.
- Catalogue record (91 trails): structured planning information that has not yet been checked against cited sources. These pages say so in their Data verification box.
- Provisional (121 trails): the place is catalogued, but its route, distance or start point still needs confirmation. These pages are kept out of search engines until they are upgraded.
Which sources come first
Every source on a trail page carries one of four labels, so you can see what kind of evidence a fact rests on.
- Official40 citations. State tourism departments, forest departments and park authorities, district administrations and permit portals.First choice for permits, fees, opening dates, closures and rules.
- Reference33 citations. Encyclopedias and conservation or research databases.Used for heights, geography and history, and cross-checked where possible.
- News33 citations. Newspapers, magazines and broadcasters.Used for recent rule changes, closures and opening dates; the source label carries the publication date where it matters.
- Guide87 citations. Trek operators, guidebooks, travel guides and travel blogs.Used for stage distances, timings and on-trail detail that official sources rarely publish. Treated as one operator's or writer's account, not an official figure.
31 of the 77 source-reviewed pages cite at least one official source. The others rely on references, news and guides for now, and are upgraded as official sources are found.
How a page is checked
- List the facts that matter for planning: start point, distance (and whether it is one-way or return), height, days, season, permits and fees, closures and safety.
- Find a source for each, official where one exists, and record the date it was checked.
- Cross-check the numbers. Where two sources disagree, for example on a summit height, both figures are shown.
- Remove anything no source supports rather than guess. Unsupported distances, heights and itinerary days have been taken out of pages for this reason.
- Tag facts that change every season, and set a date by which they will be checked again.
- Log every factual correction publicly, on the trail page and in the corrections log.
What Panth does not verify
Panth does not check live trail conditions, weather, snow or river levels, and none of its routes is a GPS-verified track unless the page says so. Permit rules and fees can change after the check date. Use Panth to plan, not to navigate, and confirm current rules with the local authority before you travel.

Corrections
If something on Panth is wrong or out of date, use Report a trail update on the trail page or the feedback page, ideally with the source or authority that supports the change. Each report is checked against a source. If the page was wrong, it is corrected and the change is recorded on the page and in the corrections log (51 entries so far).
Independence
Panth is not a tour operator, does not sell treks and does not take payment to include or rank a trail. Operator websites are cited only as sources of facts, not as recommendations.
